Rebels Remain The WSFL's Only Unbeaten Team

On a cold, rainy, August Saturday night suitable only for football, the Sheboygan County Rebels put together their first complete game of the season in a battle of league unbeatens.  Coming into Saturday night, the West Bend Junkyard Dogs sat atop the WSFL South at 4-0 matching the record of the North Division leading Rebels.  A large crowd braved the weather to view the slug-out between league heavyweights, and was not disappointed.
The Rebels opened on defense and held the Junkyard Dogs to a 3 and out.  The offense then took over, scoring on their first drive of the evening behind the power running of Justin Zehel and Paul Widder.  This proved to be pattern of the night as the Rebels defense turned the Dogs away time after time allowing only one first down by penalty in the first half.  The offense ate yards and clock all night to seal the win.  Defensively the Rebels were led by linebackers Jeremy Jacobs (4 tackles, 1sack), David Benton (4 tackles, 1 hurry), Josh Bardon (3 tackles, 1tfl), and Robert McNitt (3 tackles); and defensive end Rance Jones (2 tackles, 1sack).  Defensive back Rodney Ellison added an interception with a 24 yard return for the Rebels.
Offensively, quarterback Aaron Ratka was 5/9 for 86 yards with one interception.  Three of his passes were caught by WR Jamil Moore for 67 yards.  Zehel led all rushers with 125 yards on 25 carries with 2 TD’s (15,5yds) and 2 fumbles lost.  Nathaniel Muckerheide added 6.5 bruising yards per carry with 6 carries for 33 yards and 1 TD(10yds).  Halfback Paul Widder led all rushers in yards per carry with 11 carries for 67 yards.  Santino Laster also rushed 3 times for 7 yards from the fullback position when not blasting would-be-tacklers out of the hole.  Wide receiver Tyler Hau added a forced fumble and recovery on special teams.
The Rebels are looking to continue their unbeaten streak when they take on the Bay Area Vipers at home (Howards Grove Memorial Park)on September 12th at 3:00 pm following the Labor Day break.

8-15-09

The Rebels won 31-13 last Saturday over a very much improved Bay Area Vipers team.  The first score of the night came from the Rebels defense as end Zach Wusterbarth returned an interception for a score to give the Rebels a quick 7-0 lead in the first quarter.  But the Vipers came right back with a long drive of their own and played a tough first half to go into the break with a 13-7 lead.  After halftime the Rebel offensive unit well rested from very little time on the field in the first half received the kick to start the 3rd quarter and marched down the field to take a 14-7 lead.  The experienced and determined Rebel team took control from then on out.  Scoring an additional 17 and holding the Vipers scoreless for the remainder of the game.

The next game for the Rebels is vs the Ozaukee Demons this coming Saturday in Cedarburg.
